Press Release Body: Big-budget monster pic garners 8.3 million admissions in Korea Los Angeles, CA - September 5, 2007 - South Korea's sci-fi monster movie "D-War" continues its box office run in Korea and has reached 8.3 million admissions (grossing about $60 million) as of September 3, according to the film's distributor Showbox. Director Shim Hyung-rae's film, budgeted at about $35-70 million making it the country's most expensive film to date, is now the 5th most popular film of all time at the Korea box office.
"D-War" is scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters under the title "Dragon Wars" on September 14 by Freestyle Releasing, a theatrical distribution company responsible for films such as "The Illusionist" and "A Day Without a Mexican". According to Showbox, the film is set to open on more than 1,500 screens, which would make it the first Korean film ever to receive a wide release in the U.S.
At a press conference in Korea, Shim announced that they have also signed a deal with Sony Pictures, who will be responsible for handling the DVD distribution of the film.
